The Big Fish Story:
Up here in the NW we have had record numbers of salmon returning to our streams and rivers, Pinks, Silvers and Kings for anyone that puts the time in. I was fishing the Cowlitz river on 10-29-09 at day light and had hooked a few and landed some smaller Kings in the 12 to 15lb range, It was overcast and about 55 degree's, I was using a single size 14 fire red corky, a 1/0 owner hook on a 10ft leader and about 3/4oz hollow core lead. i was trying to catch Coho's the Cowlitz is famous for but was having no luck. most of the Kings at this time of year are starting to turn dark and its mostly catch and release, however, there are some bright ones good for the BBQ and some slightly dark ones that are good for the smoker. about 9:15 i hooked what I thought was a "Boot" (Dark King) and moved down river to get out of everyones way so they could keep fishing, 45min. later, without a net I pulled this huge male King on the shore, perfect shape for the smoker, just starting to turn color. It is the biggest fish I have ever landed. I have used the same line for 25 years and this year i switched to Trilene Big Game, I am very happy with it so far. This is the amazing part to me, I was using 12lb test! In a big river with a lot of current. The only scale at the river was kind of a piece of junk and it scaled it at 44lbs. I have had several people tell me including my father who has a 55lb King he caught in Alaska on his wall that it is bigger than 44lbs. I did'nt put a tape on it...my bad. This fish had some big teeth and your line held up! I am very impressed and will not be going back to the line I have used in the past.(Maxima) Thank you for a great product.
